The Underempire is a despotic monarchy at best, and its imperial authority is felt all across the underrealms. It is, however, a sprawling entity, a state of states, consisting of a vast social strata and multiple species of elevated insectoids with various agendas and plans. While the Empire is held tightly in militaristic fashion by the ruling class of Ants, other representatives of powerful species, like the Waspoids, Hornets and the Arachnidae still have a strong mandate and say in imperial matters. And as example comes from the top, so it trickles down every layer of the bustling societies, turning political tensions, divisions and infighting for every morsel of power into flashes of speciesm, ghettos, enclaves and of course, rabid gang wars. The cities of Underempire are the biggest and most populous on Posterra, as well as possibly most developed in every aspect. Sadly, their size, scope and match with overpopulation means that plenty of insects are living in borderline poverty with few perspectives. Even joining the army isn’t open for everyone, as many species are simply deemed to weak or unworthy for that illustrious role. And so, gangs of flies, lice and street mite urchins are a frequent danger in the less savoury districts of nearly every city in the Underempire. Brutal, cunning, street savvy and utterly without mercy, these gangers will attack with impudence and will mark their territory, being often de facto law in such areas, keeping them in semblance of order and normality, if the impoverished citizens fall in line proper.
