Posterra Vol.3 - Wizened One

There are many myths and claims about how the world survived up to this point. How this globe of countless wars, excinctions and ruinous technology deployed for annihilation still managed to keep the life going, against radiation, against choking air or deadly sunlight. No matter how colossal the cataclysm, the world endured not as a barren rock, but as a living marble of hardy organisms that seemingly don’t know where to give up. The Wizened are one of the supposed keys to such stubbornness - ancient beyond any knowledge, revered as avatars of the Living Bogs by many dank tribes in the swamps and dripping caves, these entities acts as holy druids, cultivating complex colonies of mushrooms far and wide, sustaining this form of live against all odds, be it deep underground, relatively safe from the turmoils of the surface, or in the dark, damp places in corners of the world. These mycological wonders do not just survive the manifold extinction events, but help the world heal from them... filtering out toxins from the air, soaking in harmful radiation, dripping nutrients into the soil, braking apart rocks with their slow growth of spongy tendrils. Some claims that is the humble mushroom in all of its forms that bind the world together. Some would laugh at such outrageous notion. Nonetheless, the Wizened Ones - rare and few - are a reality, and wherever they stomp, fields of various fungi emerge with haste and uncanny vigor.
