038 – Penitent Taxi

The Fleshcrafters of Oion are well known for their dark and mysterious arts. They form a small and quite secretive group, and their practises turn people stomach out (sometimes quite literally), and yet they hold enough influence, dread and practical utility that most communities are able to tolerate the little shrines and hideouts they make in the bowels of their steads and holds. The primary reason is simple – no one can mend broken bones and mangled bodies like them. In the time when medicine is pretty rudimentary and few recall the great knowledge of the past about treating illnesses and healing wounds, their craft, albeit repugnant to most, is a necessary evil. To their own end, they form a pretty law abiding citizens, always doing their best to follow local customs… But then, they always collect bodies and reforge them in their baleful rituals into new forms. They don’t understand the ourtrage either – dead have no voices, in their opinion, and waste of good bone and muscle and tendons and skin seems perfectly unreasonable and contrary to the frugality needed in such trying times. And so, you’ll often see them travelling with flesh-golems as bodyguards, bulky thralls as servants and in bigger cities, even more complex constructs of flesh, bone, gristle and body parts to fulfil more complex functions, like transportations, warfare and even living decorations.
